Coming up this Thursday morning on Central Vermont Community Radio — people-powered road closures and people-powered energy co-ops.
9:00 - 10:00 am
A several-mile stretch of County Road in East Montpelier was torn up for months last year during a construction project—and when it was finished, resident Larry Gilbert led an effort to close it again for a Sunday morning in November. People on foot, bikes, and other non-motorized vehicles played on the road for three hours. Now he's proposing to make Sunday morning closures a regular monthly event in 2023. We'll talk about the idea in the context of increasing number of road closures/parties around the world.
In November, a guest from Sweden told us about a solar energy co-op he helps run; the solar panel is built on a reclaimed landfill site. This week, we'll get a perspective on citizen-run energy co-ops around Europe from Jenny Palm at Lund University.
