How can we help bring healing and restoration to our communities? One way is by hearing the voices and stories of those who have been injured and afflicted, most especially within groups and institutions that we have called our own.

Deep listening and collective witness help those who have been wounded to reclaim their own personal power and advance their healing journeys exponentially.

Our local Burlington community will host such an opportunity this week! Please join the Burlington Community Justice Center (www.burlingtoncjc.org) for the opening reception of the Voices of St. Joseph exhibit, Thursday, Jan. 12 at 5-7 pm at the Fletcher Free Library (https://www.facebook.com/FletcherFreeLibrary/) . (Exhibit is open 1/9-2/18)

Additionally, please join us virtually for a free evening of theatre & restorative justice: monologues by the voices of St. Joseph's Orphanage Writers' Group, performed by Ami Brabson & Eric Nightengale, Directed by Eric Nightengale, Produced by Carol Adinolfi

Background: The St. Joseph's Orphanage in Burlington was home to more than 13,000 children from 1854 to 1974. Although the Catholic-run institution was held in high regard in the community, accounts began to emerge in the 1990s from scores of former orphanage residents describing abuse at the hand of nuns and other clerical personnel.

Few were believed at first, but these former residents persevered, ultimately winning validation for the harm done to them and working for new laws protecting vulnerable children in Vermont. The exhibit is the story of these former orphans, now known as the Voices of St. Joseph's Orphanage, and their remarkable and enduring accomplishments.
