January 2023 Board Update

Happy New Year from the Washington Central School Board. We have a busy January ahead and would like to update you on a couple of key processes.

Budgeting for the 2023-24 school year is well underway. This year's process has been especially challenging given the current rate of price inflation and declines in student enrollment, among other factors. We invite you to join us for a community forum on January 11 at 6:15pm to learn about the next draft budget and share your input; our forum will be via Zoom and you can find the link to that meeting along with information from prior board meetings here: https://www.wcsu32.org/domain/272. After our forum, the board will provide staff with direction for any remaining updates before adopting a proposed budget when we meet again on January 18 at East Montpelier Elementary School. Once adopted, the board will bring our proposed budget to the community for your approval.

Have you thought about joining our school board? School board elections coincide with Town Meetings and this year there will be one board seat up for election in each town. School board service is gratifying community service and members receive an annual stipend (currently $1050). For information about serving on the board, feel free to contact any of the current members: Board Members / Board Members (wcsu32.org). Petitions and Consent of Candidate forms are available from Rosie Laquerre, School District Clerk (wcuusdclerk@u32.org or 802-223-3313 x 201) or your local Town Clerk's office. Both are due January 30.

Thank you for supporting our schools and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. We are looking forward to continuing to serve you in the New Year.

Lindy, Eric and Flor
