The next meeting of the Arlington Historical Society will be held on Sunday, January 22nd from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Sandgate Meeting Room at the Martha Canfield Library. Topics will include identifying historic sites in preparation for the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the United States and collecting winter memories of Arlington, Sandgate, and Sunderland.
There will be a review of the state approved and installed historic marker program for Arlington, Sandgate, and Sunderland, and a discussion of historic sites that deserve recognition. Currently there are eight markers in Arlington and Sunderland, but none that recognize Sandgate history.
Triggered by the recent snow 'event' in December, we plan to share Memories of Winter Weather. Do you have a good story about local weather that you would like to share? I recall optimistically hanging out laundry one January thaw that turned into frozen sheets with an unexpected winter blast. We will also have several reports collected from local farmer diaries from long ago.
