The Walloomsac Walks started with a candlelight vigil for Emily Hamann two years ago. That vigil helped bring light to the need for improved safety and beautification along the Pathway. Since then the participation of hundreds of walkers has helped bring about many of those improvements, and made the monthly Downtown River Walk a must-attend event.
This Saturday's walk is themed, "Bringing Music and Light to Bennington." It will feature a special holiday musical performance by members of the Mount Anthony Union Chorus under the direction of musical director Lynn Sweet. Walkers will be offered battery-operated candles to carry along the way.
The walk will take place on Saturday, December 17 at 10:00 a.m., and will start at the People's Park on Depot Street between Main Street and River Street. The group will stop several times to hear the chorus sing, and will join them in song as well. The walk will loop through the downtown area and finish at Bringing You Vermont where refreshments will be served.
Walloomsac Walks take place every third Saturday of the month at 10:00 am. The walks are pet and stroller-friendly, and people of all ages are invited to come out and enjoy this ongoing community event. In the case of inclement weather, cancellation notices will be placed here on the Front Porch Forum and the Bennington Blotter.
