Participants will be guided through the healing practice of forest bathing in Burlington's Rock Point wilderness.
Forest Therapy (shinrin-yoku, Forest Bathing) is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. Forest Therapy is inspired by the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku, which translates to "forest bathing." Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition. We build on those benefits and look beyond, to what happens when people remember that we are a part of nature, not separate from it, and are related to all other beings in fundamental ways.
Participants will be led by certified Nature & Forest Therapy guide Duncan Murdoch. Duncan will guide participants to "hold space" and allow your executive functioning mind to take a rest. Much like a yoga teacher or meditation teacher, your Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide will show you new techniques and refine the old to deepen your experience and grow your practice.
Through this outdoor event, participants will explore the forests and meadows along the ridges of Lake Champlain. Participants are encouraged to dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes. Recommended for ages 16+.
