Saint Barbara's Night Artillery Demonstration
On the evening of Sunday, December 4th, Army ROTC's Norwich Artillery Battery under the command of Cadet David R. Campbell will conduct a demonstration by battery personnel in honor of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of artillerymen. The demonstration will take place on Norwich University's Upper Parade Ground during the period 8:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
During the demonstration, the battery will fire several cannon salutes that are set to music and timed to occur at or around 8:15 p.m. Local community members are advised that the prolonged, percussive effects of the cannon salutes are likely to be heard throughout the town of Northfield.
University students, faculty and staff, and local community members are invited to observe the demonstration. Hearing protection is recommended but not required.
According to Wikipedia, as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, Barbara is best known as the patron saint of armorers, artillerymen, military engineers, miners, and others who work with explosives because of her legend's association with lightning.
