Relocalizing VT: Unions; Local Journalism

Past event
Dec 1, 2022, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up this Thursday morning on Central Vermont Community Radio — historic and modern struggles of the labor movement in Vermont, and how we find out about what's happening in our communities through local news at a time of cutbacks.

9:00 - 10:00 am
No movement has fought harder for leisure time, like we can enjoy during the holiday season -- than the labor movement. Today, workers are struggling to hold onto the gains won by those that came before them. Liz Medina, director of the Vermont Labor Council, AFL-CIO, will talk about what the folks who brought you the weekend are up to in Vermont, and how you can be a part of labor history, too. This previews a talk she'll give at the Capital City Grange on Saturday, December 3 at 5 pm—all are welcome to that, too, in person or on Zoom.

Meg Little Reilly, Deputy Associate Director at the White House Office of Management and Budget for President Obama, and Tim Calabro, Editor and Publisher of the White River Valley Herald, will explore what journalism means in the digital age, and examine ways in which youth take part in current journalism trends. Tim Calabro will preview their talk.
