Hello NNE Readers!

This is a reminder that we are meeting on Thursday, December 1; 6PM at La Boca in the Ethan Allen Shopping Center. We'd like to arrange a table so that we can eat(or drink) and discuss the book.
For those of you who may not have read the book: Colson Whitehead is an impressive writer--from magical realism in the UNDERGROUND RR to urban realism in HARLEM SHUFFLE. In THE NICKEL BOYS he tells the story of incarcerated youth who manage to stay hopeful, or figure out how to survive, in the midst of intolerable racist cruelty. Whitehead built on stories from the now-closed Dozier(reform) School. These juvenile institutions are still in force as an expose in the Times earlier this month detailed brutal conditions for juveniles at an institution in New Orleans.
