Embracing Curiosity: Difficult Conversations About Race

Past event
Nov 30, 2022, 6 to 8 PM

Hello Richmond!

My name is Kennedy Jensen and I am a senior at Mount Mansfield Union High School. This year, I have started a program for high school students titled "Embracing Curiosity @ MMU" which is an extension of the former "Anti-Racism @ MMU" program. It is a student-led program focused on the conscious decision to choose curiosity over instinctual judgment in regard to social justice; cultivating compassion and empathy through education. This takes the form of bi-weekly sessions with professionals across many areas of activism, offered to students during the school day.

As the holidays approach, Embracing Curiosity would like to open its doors to all community members for our annual "Difficult Conversations About Race" discussion. In this 90-minute seminar, facilitators will be leading community members, students, and MMUUSD staff through difficult conversations about race. As a group we will work to break down common problematic statements, using role play and group discussion to better understand how to take part in these uncomfortable conversations compassionately and effectively. We will be offering a session on Wednesday, November 30th from 6-8 pm as well as other sessions the following week tailored to community interest. We aim to provide a safe and compassionate space for those looking to learn how to confidently approach these conversations and hope to see you there!

Thank you all so much for your support and have a wonderful holiday!
