Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio — Picking the right trees for cities, plus US veterans as threats to--and defenders of--democracy at home.
9:00 - 10:00 am
What kind of forests are appropriate in urban areas? What's the role of non-native species in cities and villages? What goes into building an urban tree program? These are all questions Joanne Garton works with Vermonters on, as technical assistance coordinator for the state's urban and community forest program.

[Rescheduled from last week:]
With Armistice / Veterans Day just behind us, we talk about a new book, Our Veterans, which is co-authored by Jay Craven, who cut his journalistic teeth in Vermont. The NY Times Book Review called it a "chilling account of the physical, economic and psychological consequences of military service on veteran health" and "a critical look at the many players involved in shaping veteran life in the United States." We'll talk with Craven and co-author Steve Early about the role of military veterans in national politics (including some of the most controversial candidates running for federal or state office this fall), how what lessons health care in the Veterans Administration has for the rest of the country, and other veteran-related issues.
