4:00pm, Sunday November 13th, at St. James Church in Woodstock (2 St. James Place, Woodstock, VT)

Program Description:

Musica Obscura: the Unfamiliar Baroque

This program, performed by Cameo Baroque (Leslie Stroud, traversos; Beth Hilgartner, recorders and voice; Laurie Rabut, viola da gamba; and Ernie Drown, harpsichord) features works by unfamiliar composers, or dedicated to obscure historical or mythological figures, or written for unusual instruments or unique events. Composers include Elisabeth Claude Jacquet de la Guerre, Michele Cabalone, Roberto Valentine, Telemann, Bach, and a little early Haydn.

The musicians performing today, Cameo Baroque, are committed to sharing the music of the baroque era using 18th century performance practices on period instruments.  They are the only "period band" regularly performing the music of the baroque in the Upper Valley.

Cameo Baroque Editions, the work of Beth Hilgartner, are based on original manuscripts from the 17th and 18th centuries. Some of the works on today's program were performed from these new editions — music which was previously unavailable in modern notation, with informed, scholarly editing. We are indebted to the International Music Score Library Project, www.imslp.org, which makes it possible to see and use original and autograph manuscripts.  For more information and to purchase Cameo Baroque Editions, please visit www.cameoarts.org.  Your purchase supports the mission of Cameo Arts Foundation, Inc.
