WHAT IS A TEEN SCIENCE CAFE?
It is a free, fun way for teens to explore science, engineering and technology with local scientists, engineers and technology experts. Teens participate in informal discussions and handson activities to learn about different topics. And, there is always free food! Planned and run by teens for teens.
THIS CAFE:
The scientific study of networks, such as the internet, social networks, and biological networks includes ideas from a variety of disciplines including mathematics, computer science, physics, biology, sociology, and many others. The ubiquity of networks offers us the opportunity to interact with the types of questions that network scientists consider when studying networks. Come to this café and, through a guided investigation of social networks, you will collaborate to discover network principles and uncover the solution to the "small world problem".
ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:
Colin Levaunt is a graduate student studying mathematics at the University of Vermont and received his undergraduate degree in mathematics and physics in 2018 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Colin's interests are in the application of advanced mathematics towards understanding problems in complex systems, using techniques from combinatorics, algebraic topology, machine learning, and network science. This past summer Colin was an intern at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center working with a team researching network architectures to enable the future Solar System Internet. Colin is passionate about teaching, learning, and discovery and he loves to introduce new minds to scientific research.
