With the wonderful accompaniment and support of Eliza Thomas, I'm grateful to be giving a recital of art song in gratitude for a personally meaningful journey, over the last couple of years, of coming back home to my voice and beginning the new venture of teaching voice here in Montpelier (davidruffinvoice.com). While my career was primarily in musical theater and I enjoy singing across many genres, my reconnection with this beautiful classical music has been a particularly surprising delight. That, combined with meeting and singing with my colleague in the Monteverdi Music School faculty and neighbor, Eliza, inspired this recital. It's the first concert I've offered while here in Vermont and the first time I've performed a concert of classical art song in about two decades! I share that not as a caveat, though, rather as an invitation to celebrate with me the possibilities of coming home, anew, to joys sometimes misplaced along the way.
