Important Reminders Re: Voting & Taxes

Hello, all:

I suppose this post falls into the category of Everything but Death. But here are some helpful reminders about voting and taxes:

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7: The Town Clerk's Office will be open to process absentee ballots but closed for all other matters, per Board of Civil Authority designation. We can handle the occasional tax payment, though we'd prefer to concentrate on alphabetizing, checking names off the checklist and running the ballots through the tabulator.

This is a public process allowed by statute for efficiency and accuracy and it's one of the big reasons Vermont gets results on Election Night, unlike other states that process early ballots AFTER the polls have closed. There will be no results until the polls close at 7 PM on Tuesday, November 8th and we run the report.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 8 - Election Day! In-person voting takes place in Town Hall (upstairs) 5 Church Street, off US Route 2, from 7 AM - 7 PM. Please bring the ballot you were mailed! You can mark it and run it through the tabulator yourself. If you don't bring a ballot, you will have to complete an affidavit swearing you have voted nowhere else. Poll watchers are permitted provided they stand in a designated area and do not harass voters. Political supporters, petitioners, anyone hanging around Town Hall aside from actually voting must do so in a designated area outside, away from the entrance to Town Hall. Come see me on Election Day and I'll give you more info. (By the way, I am assuming from Middlesex's excellent reputation as a tolerant community that everyone will be as courteous and considerate as they have in the past.)

Any absentee ballots returned by 7 PM, Tuesday, November 8th will be counted. POSTMARKS WON'T WORK!! By the way, if you're one of the 650 who's returned a ballot and want to check if it's been received by our office, just go to https://mvp.vermont.gov/ and input the necessary info to find out.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 10th - The Town Clerk's Office will be closed.

On to....TAXES!

The 2nd quarter property taxes are due November 20th. Since that is a Sunday, you may slip your payments through the slot in the door. Please use an envelope. If you wish to receive a receipt, please include a self-addressed, stamped, return envelope as well.

ACH (automatic withdrawal from your checking account) is available until Thursday, November 17th. Please submit a voided check and a completed form which you can find here: http://middlesexvermont.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/2021ACH.pdf

That should do it for now, until I repost annoyingly. And, yes, we've restocked the candy bars!
