Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio — A "village" model of aging in place comes to Vermont, and it's almost time to plant or move bare-root trees.
9:00 - 10:00 am
This year is the 20th anniversary of the first aging-in-place "village" starting in Boston, and the movement has grown to nearly 300 around the country. These villages are not the physical Villages for retirees in Florida, but "community-based, nonprofit, grassroots organizations formed through a cadre of caring neighbors who want to change the paradigm of aging." Montpelier Senior Activity Center is working on creating one in central Vermont. We'll hear from folks who have formed active villages in Lamoille County and Chittenden County.

As trees drop their leaves, shed their feeder roots, and go dormant for the winter, a window for planting bare-root trees is approaching. Nicko Rubin of East Hill Tree Farm explains the advantages of planting or moving bare-root trees, and he describes the blight-resistant chestnuts he's growing.
