After a Covid pause, the shared kitchen and event space, Tandem in Bristol, is reviving its community shrine. During this time of year when many cultures honor lives of loved ones passed and believe the veil between this realm and the spirit world thins, we set up space in front of our shop for people to collectively remember those dear to us who have moved on. There has been so much loss lately between Covid, war, the opiod epidemic, and life just taking lives from us; as a culture we get one shot grieve collectively - the funeral - then are expected to hold our loss alone. Tandem's cofounders Lauren Gammon and I started the community altar in 2017 after she lost her mom, Kathy, and my dad, Ron "the Doc" Messer, died as a way to honor those who have passed - from parents to pets - in a shared way. Feel free to stop by 26 Main St in Bristol any time between now and November 5 to add a photo, photocopy, momento, poem, trinket or just to check it out. All items added to the community shrine can be collected when we take it down on November 6. And we are having an event in the spirit of the Day of the Dead on November 5 starting at 5:00 to culminate in celebration with food, music, tarot card readings and other fun. Feel free to email me with any questions.
