We are not confined by these options alone. I know there is a constructive VT solution. This is what I am dedicated to working towards so that the people, the economy and the environment of VT can all thrive.
Also, It is not about inaction, it is about right action. It is about ensuring that decisions made are not impulsive or destructive and will not result in collateral damage for the people and small businesses of VT. Despite caring greatly for the environment, many Vermonters have voiced their concerns regarding the economic impacts of CHS. This is also why Guv Scott had vetoed CHS (H715)
I had mentioned previously that after spending time at the statehouse every week this past session, there really was a tremendous amount of impulsive, destructive, and questionable legislation.
Specifically with regards to the issues associated with the CHS and TCI-P initiatives as the answers I had stated in a recent post-
"Vermonters are ingenious and creative- there are new revenue streams opening up from dispensaries. Looking at funding- budgets, grants and alternative revenue options must be considered before locking Vermonters and businesses into higher costs on heating and transportation fuels as the answer." These are still necessities for many Vermonters.
There were many issues with the CHS. - all have been previously discussed here- no biofuel caps despite Sen.Ram- Hinsdale's attempts, significant funding for more bureaucratic positions, higher costs for what are still currently necessities for many and forcing a system on the people. This was an attack- some may feel it is justified and must happen this way but Vermonters deserve exploration of all possible paths and ideally technologies would be accessible and available instead of punishing or penalizing those who cannot or haven't yet invested.
As a nutritionist, I have worked for over 20 years connecting Vermonters with local farms to access high-quality, local food. These sustainable and integrated farms and the many who are transitioning to these eco farms are nourishing the people, the environment and contributing to a thriving economy. This is a perfect mutualistic relationship. It involves best practices, stewardship, stable food security for communities and elimination of chemicals.
