By now, most registered voters in the Town of Canaan and Beecher Falls should have received their general election ballots. If you have not, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Canaan Town Clerk via telephone at 802-266-3370 (Mon. – Thurs. 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Fri 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM) or email at clerktreas@canaan-vt.org.
If you have not received your ballot, the Town Office can issue you a new ballot. However, to do so, you must fill out a no-ballot cast affidavit stating that you have not received your ballot and will only be voting on the ballot given to you by the Town Clerk.
There are two different ways that you can vote this year. The first is that once you receive your ballot, you can vote immediately and send it to the Town Office. Exactly like voting by absentee ballot. The second is that you can vote in person using the ballot you have received. This would mean you come into the office on election day and vote in person. We ask that you remember to bring in the ballot sent to you. If you don't, you will be required to sign a No Ballot Cast affidavit per 13 V.S.A. §2901 and 17 V.S.A. §1971.
If you choose to vote using the first method, you can mail your ballot to the Canaan Town Office using the prepaid and addressed envelope provided to you with your ballot. The second option is to drop your ballot off in the Overnight deposit box. The third and final way is to give your ballot to Noreen Labrecque or me during regular office hours.
One last reminder, the ballots mailed to you only cover the state election and do not include the ballot for the local election. This year the Town of Canaan is electing our Justices of the Peace. You may request an absentee ballot or come in on election day to vote to access this ballot.
We encourage everyone in Canaan to get out and vote. It is a civic duty that we take for granted but a duty that many people worldwide wish for!
