The next meeting of the ACSD School Board will take place this coming Monday, 10/24/2022 at 6:30 pm. On the agenda is an action item on potential changes to the District Charter relative to school closure. The Board needs to hear from the community.

The Ad Hoc Charter Research Committee has been working on reviewing charters around the state. The meeting materials are found on the ACSD website. It's clear the Charter Research Committee put a lot of effort into researching and gathering this information. Many charters around the state include a town vote on school closure in that town. Notably, 39 of the 46 unified districts have variations of a town vote requirement featured in their articles of agreement.

The ACSD charter does not include any such provision. It is important for the board to hear from the community on this important matter. If you have participated in the past and felt disenfranchised or discouraged, please stay involved! I really believe this board wants, and needs, to hear from the community.

The meeting is in person (208 Charles Ave in Middlebury) and public comment happens at the beginning of the meeting. There is a zoom element to attend remotely.
