The VT Bluegrass Pioneers are a quartet consisting of bluegrass musicians who can be considered "pioneers" of that style of music in Vermont going back to the 1960's & 70's when bluegrass music "up here" was not as well known or popular as it is today. They will be appearing this Friday Oct 21st at The Whammy Bar in the rear of the Maple Corner Store, Calais. The Pioneers consist of brothers Banjo Dan (banjo/guitar) and Willy (mandolin) Lindner, founders of what was Vermont's premier bluegrass band, "Banjo Dan & the Mid-Nite Plowboys" (1972-2012), Montpelier native Danny Coane (guitar/banjo), who was one of few people playing bluegrass music in this area going back to 1963 and Sam Blagden (bass), who was a member of the Plowboys during the 70's. They all sing, Dan & Danny swap between guitar and banjo and the group features lesser known bluegrass numbers from the 50's and 60's. Show time is 7 - 9pm for donations. Come on up to Maple Corner to enjoy some real-deal, hard-core bluegrass music!
