Social Band sings you awake with its program:
"Awake, You Sleeper!" Songs of waking in a time of quietness
We often associate the coming of winter with entry into quietude, stillness, and our own preferred style of hibernation. And, sure, we may all find ourselves occasionally thinking about heading to bed, only to find that it's only 6:30pm. However, as the air gets brisk, it can also instill a sense of purpose, possibility, and even renewal after the languor of summer.
Social Band will mark this moment in the turning of the seasons with a program of choral works and poetry that speak to the sense of alertness and awakening that can go hand-in-hand with the shorter days and lower temperatures. We'll feature new works by Social Band members Bruce Chalmer, Michael Kellogg (aka Clyde Powers) and Don Jamison, as well as our perennial styles of Renaissance music and American shape-note tunes along with a refreshing dose of poetry, robust harmony, and singing camaraderie.
