Join Burlington City Arts on Friday, October 21 from 5-7 pm to raise a glass to the talented local artists behind our new Fall exhibitions, "Valerie Hird: The Garden of Absolute Truths" and "Bill McDowell: Roxham Road to North Elba."
In "The Garden of Absolute Truths," Burlington-based, nationally acclaimed artist Valerie Hird presents a provocative visual exploration of humanity's shared myths through immersive large-scale paintings, animated video, and three-dimensional sculpture.
Bill McDowell's "Roxham Road to North Elba" brings together 50 evocative color photographs to create a powerful installation that links present and past while considering complex ideas around borders, migration, privilege, and racism.
Come gather with our creative community and be one of the first to experience these powerful new exhibitions!
ALSO, don't miss out on Family Art Saturday on Saturday, October 22 at 11 am at the BCA Center. Join us for a make-and-take art activity that connects with "The Garden of Absolute Truths." Inspired by Hird's colorful patterns and iconic symbols that reference memory, literature, and pop culture, you can experiment with different watercolor and collage techniques to create your own fantastical gardens.
Support for Bill McDowell and his project "Roxham Road to North Elba" is made possible in part by The Humanities Center at the University of Vermont. All works in "The Garden of Absolute Truths" are courtesy of the Artist and Nohra Haime Gallery, NY. BCA's 2022 exhibition year is presented by Mascoma Bank.
