On Halloween night in 2001, on the front porch of a friend's house in downtown Chelsea, Nick DeFriez set out an old garbage barrel with a speaker playing scary sounds of hornets buzzing hidden in the bottom. He put candy on a shelf above the speakers, thinking it would make the trick or treaters think twice before they reached in. The photographs were taken with a flash camera to illuminate the bright and colorful costumes of the trick or treaters against the dark spooky night. These photographs are currently on exhibit at the Chelsea Public Library.
Nick DeFriez is a long time Chelsea resident and has been an artist and woodworker for many years. He earned his MA in studio art from Hunter College and a BS in art education from the University of Vermont.
Join us from 4-6 PM at the library for mulled cider, candy, kids goodie bags, and more! Come chat with Nick about his photos & try to recognize the faces. Light refreshments will be served. Hope to see you there! 🎃
