There is lots of information swirling around about the proposed merger between MAUSD and ANWSD making it difficult to understand the facts. We are lucky in New Haven to have two committed educators who volunteered to be part of this committee because of their understanding of the challenges we face and their dedication to the best possible future for our students.

Ed McGuire not only taught for many years in our district but was also part the strategic planning committee who helped to set the educational priorities and successful teaching and curriculum strategies for our schools. Ed was the founder of the Futures Academy for our high school students which eventually became the Pathways program at Mt. Abe allowing students to pursue personalized learning options. The first of its kind in the US, personalized learning has now become a preeminent model of learning throughout the US. Ed has been a tireless advocate for our students over many years. Sarah LaPerle is a teacher and parent of students in our schools and also serves as a New Haven representative on the MAUSD board. Sarah has a deep understanding of the financial challenges the district faces and participated on the Merger Study Committee in an effort to determine the best possible path forward for our kids and families.
