Have you been in the forest enough this summer?
If not, the Science to Action Project has planned two more chances for you to get outside with your neighbors.
On Saturday, September 14, from 10 am - noon, children of all ages are welcome (with a parent) to meet at Mills Riverside Park pavilion for a nature walk. With a professional biologist leading the group, everyone is sure to learn something about our area’s plants, wildlife, forests and rivers.
Your second opportunity comes Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. to noon with the chance to explore a rarely visited area. We have lined up Huntington resident Everett Marshall, from the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department’s Wildlife Diversity Program, to lead a walk into an area off Stage Road that is not only home to a rich array of plants and animals but also remnants of long-gone hill farms. You’ll see first-hand why so much of the land has been conserved through the Chittenden County Uplands Conservation Project and how it still remains a robust part of the local economy.
We will start and end at the marked VAST trail on Stage Road in Bolton, three miles from Rt. 2. Please wear footgear to handle rough and wet terrain, plus bring water and bug spray. Parking is limited, so please car-pool if you can. More information can be found at ccrpcvt.org/science-to-action or by emailing rebeccagorney.vt@gmail.com.
