Jun 25 to 28, 2014

There are many fun events this week at the Johnson Public Library.
The Summer Reading Program is in full swing, but if your child hasn't signed up yet, don't worry; it's not too late! And our Summer Kid's Club Programs begin this week and run until August 2nd. Kid's club activities are free and open to all, but space is limited, so please come by or call the library to reserve your spot. Kids are grouped as follows:
Seedlings: pre-K
Fizzies: grades K-2
Boomers: grades 3-6
Sparks: grades 6-12
Family Fun Day: all are welcome

Wednesday 6/25: Seedlings 10-11am Family Music with Pam.
Come bang on drums, toot whistles, scratch rhythm sticks, and sing songs with joyful exuberance! Sing old favorites and learn the new treasures Pam has up her sleeve.

Thursday 6/26: Fizzies 10-11am
Fish Kites
We will learn about Anemology: the study of the movement of the winds. We will discuss where winds come from and learn some of the neat names and characteristics of a few global winds. We will celebrate the wind by making our own fish kites/ windsocks that kids can actually use!

Thursday 6/26: Boomers 12-1:30pm Rocket Cars
This week, the group will investigate the basic laws of rocketry by hands-on learning of Newton's third law of motion: "For every reaction there is an equal and opposite reaction". We will build vehicles that demonstrate how rockets move, and students will be challenged to come up with their own designs for rocket cars, culminating in rocket race!

Friday 6/27: Open Studio 4:30-5:30pm
Kids are welcome to drop in during the weekly open studio hour to complete their projects, or simply to do some independent crafting.

Friday 6/27: Sparks 5:30-7pm
Tie Dye workshop- open to all! We have 24 plain white bandanas and a dozen canvas bags for people to dye. Instructions/ tutorials will be given for various tie dying techniques. Priority will be given to Sparks aged kids (grades 6-12), but we think there will be plenty of space for others!

Saturday 6/28: Family Fun Day 10am-12pm
Science Mobiles
Come one, come all to Family Fun Day every Saturday morning at the library! This week we will explore the properties of balance and equilibrium by making kinetic sculptures- otherwise known as mobiles. We have an arsenal of natural science objects for you to choose from, but please feel free to bring your own special (smallish) things to hang on your mobile (sea shells, pine cones, really cool sticks, etc).
