Remediation Response + BHS/BTC 2025 Forum

Past event
Oct 13, 2022, 7 to 8 PM

Greetings neighbors,

Thank you for posting your questions about the BHS/BTC 2025 project.

I am writing today in response to a specific question about remediation and also to invite you to a virtual forum this Thu, 10/13 from 7 - 8 PM, during which you will have the opportunity to ask your questions directly of Supt Flanagan, your south end school commissioners, city councilors, and state representatives and also hear valuable perspectives from current students.

I hope you will register today: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYudeigqzgjGdIPN5rzhUG8w4Vi0JciKLvl

Specific to remediation, the PCBs are in the walls, the ceilings, the glue in the floor tiles, the caulking around the windows, in the soils, and in the concrete floor. Environmental regulations require the district to remove every source of PCBs, which in this case means gutting the entire building at incredible cost to taxpayers before factoring in costs associated with renovations. Any renovated building would then still require ongoing PCB testing in perpetuity because of current contaminant leaching. For these reasons unfortunately, remediation is not an option.

Thank you again for using this forum to share your questions, concerns, and support for the project. Please also feel free to review FAQs assembled and regularly updated by the district: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1QBkWr0_7KCtQYMAt-ZDAX18o9R8QtXfR9r8xv2wV_eg/edit

I am available to continue the conversation at your convenience and look forward to hearing from you (lcampriello@bsdvt.org/(802) 391-0079).

Very warmly,
Lucia Campriello
Ward 5 school commissioner
