Please join us for this WORLD PREMIERE! Haying, cutting corn, cutting oats- come see what farmers were up to in East Craftsbury in the 30's. Dave Rowell of Brassknocker Farm will join us to offer his perspective on the films and answer questions. Note: This event will take place at the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church. It is free, and all are welcome.
We can't wait to share these films with you! Last fall, the Simpson Library received a donation of films taken in and around East Craftsbury during the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's by Ouida "Bunny" Grant, who lived with Jean Simpson in East Craftsbury. Bunny studied photography with Edward Steichen, and she documented the world around her through photography and film. With help from the Vermont Historical Society, we reviewed the films last winter, and determined that the films were of good quality and worth digitizing. With support from the Vermont Humanities Council as well as the Green Mountain Fund and the NEK fund of the Vermont Community Foundation, we had over 50 reels of film digitized. This is the first public screening of the films; we plan to have many many more.
