Fall Foliage Festival Walk

Past event

The Calais Conservation Commission, along with the Calais Historic Preservation Commission and the Calais Trails Committee, will host a walk on the Ellis-Bruce Trail, the original official Calais hiking trail, opened in 2009. The walk will be led by Toni Kaeding who, along with her husband John, owns the land on which most of the trail lies. She will share her knowledge of the history of the trail, including the Ellis and Bruce families, and their farms and cemeteries that once lay along its route, which was a road linking Calais and Worcester.

The walk will be Saturday, October 8, 2022, starting at 9:30 a.m. It should last approximately two hours. Meet at the parking area at the western end of Long Meadow Hill Road. Please do not block driveways or the road.

The trail length is 1.5 miles downhill with fairly good footing. Because this is an out and back hike, the total distance will be 3 miles. The return trip uphill has several long inclines if folks are not regular hikers. If 3 miles is a bit much, people could leave a car at the trail's parking area on the Worcester end of the trail, located on Kaeding Road.
