Chestnut Plot and Deer Exclosure Site Tour, The Putney School, Sunday, October 9th, 10 am and 2 pm:
Take a Tour of the Chestnut Plot and Deer Exclosure Site, The Putney School, Sunday, October 9th during Harvest Festival at 10 am and 2 pm
Putney School science teacher, Dawn Zweig, and senior, Henry Stephenson-Ryan, will provide two opportunities to see the Putney School's deer exclosure study site. This site is meant to provide long-term data on northern hardwood forest regeneration without the presence of deer who often browse our most desired native species. Even more exciting is that one of the study plots has120 hybrid chestnuts from the American Chestnut Foundation that were recently planted to see if this once ubiquitous tree can reestablish in our forests. If you'd like to learn more about the long-term deer exclosure study and/or the hybrid chestnut planting please join us. Hikes will last 30-40 minutes. Meet at the Putney Big Tree Quest table (on the east lawn)
