Relocalizing VT Thursday: Opportunities for Youth

Past event
Sep 29, 2022, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio — Turning out the youth vote online, and training young people in the trades.

9:00 - 10:00 am
A month ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, Andy Forrest of Feel Good Action will describe how the organization works with micro-influencers on social media to "turn Viewers into Voters." They worked to influence young voters, in particular, in the November 2020 election and are continuing that work now. It's work people in a blue state can be part of, because social media crosses state lines.

Some characterize the Northlands Job Corps Center in Vergennes as "the best-kept secret in Vermont" when it comes to education opportunities. The federally funded center trains 16- to 24-year-olds in seven trades that are in high demand right now, and provides them room and board--at no charge. It even provides them with high school training, if necessary, and sets them up with part-time jobs. We'll hear from instructors and students in the programs for building construction and medical assistants.
