Japanese Barberry Control on Sap Boiler Trail

Past event
Sep 30, 2022, 10 AM

Japanese barberry, a non-native invasive shrub in the upper White River watershed, is linked to an increase in the presence of Lyme disease-carrying blacklegged ticks (deer ticks).

The Upper White River CWMA has been leading a multi-year project to remove Japanese barberry from the popular Sap Boiler Trail behind the Rochester Ranger Station. This trail receives high visitor use, which facilitates its spread, thus potentially facilitating the spread of Lyme Disease.

Join Marybeth Hanley, coordinator of the UWR CWMA to learn about this invasive and potentially health-threatening plant and help to remove it from Sap Boiler trail. Each year, we plan to work on segments until the whole trail is free of Japanese Barberry. We need your help!
