Fall Mushroom Forays!

Past event
Oct 1, 2022, 9 AM to 12 PM

Hi Friends,

If you are interested in learning about fungi and how to better identify common mushrooms then this is the perfect experience for you. We'll learn key physical characteristics of mushrooms and how to utilize those features to help us get a positive ID. Using our smartphones, we'll learn techniques to take higher quality photos and make scientific observations to help us ID and map fungal growth.

Some of the topics we'll discuss include; sustainable foraging, edibility, preparation, medicinal benefits, cultivation, myco-remediation, smartphone photography, iNaturalist and the role of citizen science.

Dates:
October 1st 9am-Noon
October 8th 9am - Noon
October 16th 9am - Noon

All forays will take place at the Uplands Trails, in Jeffersonville (trails subject to change based on available fungal growth).

The walks will last about two and half hours and cover a couple miles of fairly level ground. Our pace will be very slow (don't want to miss any mushies!) but please wear sturdy shoes/boots as you might need to step off trail to observe a specimen. Bring water and snacks as well as a basket or bag for collecting, I will have paper bags for those who need. We'll spend about thirty minutes post walk investigating our findings in the parking lot around a table.

Forays are open to all ages and experience levels!

Adults - $20
Teens - $10
Kids - free
