St. Albans Town will host a public meeting to discuss changes to the Town’s Zoning Bylaws and Subdivision Regulations at 6:00PM on Wednesday June 25th at the Town Hall, 579 Lake Rd., St. Albans, VT, 05478. The Town is undertaking a comprehensive update of its Zoning and Subdivision Regulations to implement the vision of the Town Plan and the community. We want your input.
What are Zoning Bylaws? Zoning Bylaws are tools for implementing the Town Plan and for guiding future development. Zoning governs “uses” (e.g. residential, commercial, or industrial), the size of buildings, and how buildings relate to other buildings, open spaces, and the street.
How does zoning affect me? Zoning helps determine what the environment around you looks like. Zoning impacts where stores, homes, and offices are located, if there are sidewalks, how big or small yards are and how many parking spots are at a given site. Zoning can impact health, property values, and housing and shopping options.
Why is the Town updating the bylaws? The Zoning Bylaws shape the Town; they restrict or incentivize new development. The Zoning Bylaws were last updated in 2009 and have not been changed to meet the land use goals set out in the Town Plan. The Town wants to integrate these goals the Town Plan, create a clearer, easier-to-read document, and incorporate suggestions from citizens. The Town has received a Municipal Planning Grant from the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development to assist in the update.
