Stone Valley Arts presents THE STORY and NEW DATA/NEW DADA, two distinct 'open call' exhibitions from September 15 through November 20, 2022. The public is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, September 24 from 5-7pm. Gallery open hours are Sundays 1-4pm, during all on-site performances and events and by appointment.
THE STORY is a compelling exhibition of contemporary photography. Artists were invited to submit photographs that tell a story or visual narrative that at a basic level evoke an emotional or visceral response from the viewer. Both digital and analog photographs were accepted to this juried exhibition. THE STORY is a collection of photographs that bring the artists' unique insights to personal and collective stories, real places and events and fantastical realms.
This exhibition features 25 photographs submitted by artists from Vermont, New York, California, and Texas.
NEW DATA/NEW DADA is an exhibition of collage and 3D assemblage. Artists were invited to submit collage based work that explore, echo, translate or reinvent Dada. The Dada movement was a strain of avant-garde art, characterized by its use of unorthodox materials, use of popular imagery, and collaborative juxtapositions, and driven by its anti-establishment ethic. NEW DATA/NEW DADA presents a range of visual perspectives on the "here and now". Dada art is known for audacious exploration and commentary on all that is surreal, distorted, illogical and perplexing. Collage often merges contemporary and historical symbolism that has the capacity to express simultaneously a number of meanings.
The juried exhibition features 40 works of art submitted by artists from Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Vancouver B.C., California, Arizona, New Mexico, Alabama, Brooklyn, New York City, and New Orleans, LA.
