Nothing is more Vermont Fall than the smell of apple pie and fresh apple cider. This year the West Windsor Sustainability Committee (WWSC) offers you the opportunity to experience both during the Fall for Brownsville event on October 1, 2022.
First, the Committee is hosting an Apple Pie Contest with two categories "Best Tasting" and "Best Looking" with two classes (16 years old and under / 17 years old and above). To enter the contest please bring your pie to the West Windsor Town Hall on Saturday October 1, 2022, no later than 11.45am. The entries will be judged by a certified apple pie connoisseur and BB&P gift certificates will be awarded to each class winner at 1.00pm. Samples from the entries will be distributed to attendees between 1.00pm – 1.30pm. As famed pie maker, Elise "Honey Crisp" Cortland has been known to say "pull out the recipes, fire up the ovens and let the baking begin!"
Secondly, who doesn't enjoy the taste of fresh apple cider in the Fall. Look around your home and bring some of your extra apples (they don't have to be pretty, just apples) to Town Hall starting at 10am. We will have a masher and cider press where you will have an opportunity to mash and press those apples into sweet apple cider. If you would like to take some cider home, please bring a small container. As a bonus, the Committee expects to have bags of apple mash available for your compost pile.
