PLEASE MAKE PLANS TO JOIN THE VUES COMMUNITY GROUP & THE VERGENNES RECREATION COMMITTEE ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 1ST, 2022 from 8:00am-NOON.

We did some great work these last few years getting the outdoor classroom and the trails behind the Vergennes tennis courts in better shape so that the students may use them all year long.

Goal for Saturday VUES/VUMHS Outdoor Classroom Clean-up

There are 4 large jobs needed this day and we hope we can get several volunteers to help accomplish these 4 goals:

Clearing Trails: The trails have overgrown and we need help cutting back grass, branches, burdocks etc... If you have a weed wacker or pair of clippers please bring them. WE NEED AS MANY WEED WACKERS AS POSSIBLE. The bridges are nearly impassable.

Spreading Wood Chips: Once the trails have been cleared we will have 2 large loads of wood chips to spread on the trails to keep them maintained and dry. If you have a wheelbarrow, shovel or rake please bring them. I've heard from United Way Addison County and we'll have at least one Middlebury College team show up to help but they don't have equipment and we could really use their help getting mulch out on the trails. Thus, IF YOU HAVE A WHEELBARROW, BRING IT.

Bridge Repair: The two bridges have shifted and need to be moved and more stable. If you have a pair of tall muck boots and a strong back we need your help moving sections.

Stump Setup: We have several stumps that need to be relocated to create learning spaces in our open areas. If you have some gloves, a strong back or wheelbarrow please bring.

Volunteers: please wear long pants and a pair of gloves for safety, but several tools are also needed. If you can bring any of the following items we would appreciate it: Wheelbarrow, Rakes, Shovels, Weed Wackers, & Clippers. Thanks, we hope to see you out there!

Ms. Newton and I will be there to help get everyone going. We are also going to try and make a dent into the New Haven Road connector.

If we can get those things done, then that will go a long way to making the outdoor classroom more user friendly to teachers and students and really the entire community.

Thank you.
