The Middlesex Historical Society is exhibiting this weekend at the Vermont History Expo at Tunbridge Fairgrounds. Our exhibit, "The Lost Village of Wrightsville," highlights with maps and photos the history of Wrightsville. The exhibit describes the village and mills founded in the 1800s by Medad Wright on the border between Montpelier and Middlesex. It then focuses on the location of roads and homes in the village that were sacrificed and flooded over in 1933 in order to build the Wrightsville Dam and to save the city of Montpelier from a repeat of the deadly Great Flood of 1927. Find out about the vibrant little community that existed under the water and recreation area where we all now love to swim and boat.
History Expo, sponsored by the Vermont Historical Society, is a two-day family event complete with music, heritage animals, crafters, artisans, authors, encampments, historical re-enactors, and exhibits from museums and local historical societies across the state. Whether you're 8 or 88, Vermont History Expo at Tunbridge Fairgrounds is down-home fun for all! Saturday and Sunday, June 21-22, 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
