Do you want your city to have clean rivers? BE the change you want to see!

Join us for the second annual Barre City River Clean-up starting in City Hall Park on September 24th at 9AM. This event is hosted by Friends of the Winooski River and our very own Barre City River Access Task Force.

What we need: A few old aluminum canoes, some 5-gallon buckets for trash (that you don't want back), and a sense of adventure and good cheer.

What to bring: Please come prepared to get dirty! Wear appropriate clothing, including shoes that can be worn in the river; bring a snack and water, gloves (if you want them) and protection from sun or rain (we don't recommend rubber boots unless they are attached to waders). Note that the river access spots and river beds can be steep, extremely slippery, rocky, and uneven, so bring your river legs.

What to expect: A breakfast of bagels and coffee will be provided. You'll be picking up trash in the form of plastic bags, old tires, bike parts, etc. We'll be doing this for about 2 hours. We will drive to the sites from City Hall Park and will plan to coordinate carpooling on site.

Please RSVP to barrerivers@gmail.com. RSVPs are appreciated to plan for food, but not required. Youth (14-18) who want to participate in the cleanup without a parent present MUST bring a liability release form signed by their parent to the event. People younger than 14 must be accompanied by a parent throughout the event.

Fillable liability forms can be found here and printed out for collection at City Hall Park or sent to barrerivers@gmail.com: https://winooskiriver.org/uploads/files/Liability%20Fillable%20Cleanup.pdf
