Local Volunteer Group Focusing on Poverty

Past event

Are you a Vermonter who wants to make a difference for those living in poverty in your town, your state, and your world? You could consider joining your local volunteer group, RESULTS Vermont. Currently, we are a group of three local Vermonters, ranging in age and experience, who get together (virtually or in-person) twice a month to discuss and address actionable items around current issues and legislation, specifically focused on poverty, that have the potential to positively impact those affected by poverty, in Essex Junction and beyond.

We focus primarily on building standing relationships with our Members of Congress (with support provided to us from the national RESULTS group, who provide us with resources and coaching in working with our MOCs) so that we can discuss with our Senators and Representatives about what matters to us as constituents.

Last spring, the national RESULTS group paid for our tickets to a lobbying event in Washington, D.C., where we met in-person with the offices of Senators Sanders and Leahy. This summer, Bernie's staff reached out to the three of us specifically asking for a meeting to hear what we are working on and what matters to us. We met with them at Ben and Jerry's on Church Street.

This is why we are called RESULTS—we take direct action to make a measurable impact.

Some things we are working on now: expanding the Child Tax Credit to help children and families struggling to make ends meet since the pandemic, passing the current Tuberculosis bill to end TB around the world, and getting Congress to pass the READ Act in support of global education.

RESULTS focuses on bipartisan work, with no individual political allegiance.

If you are interested in coming to one of our meetings, or just joining us for a Letter Writing Event (where we write letters to our Members of Congress about a specific, current matter around poverty), reach out to us at VermontResults@gmail.com. Our next virtual meeting is September 27th at 4 p.m. To read more about the national group we are a chapter of, go to results.org.
