Calling all Birders! Gather at Rokeby during Ferrisburgh Days and learn about an exciting app that can enhance your birding experience and all the while enable you to be a citizen scientist contributing valuable information to a worldwide database used by conservation scientists. The eBird program was developed by and is maintained by the famed Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It can be used on a pc, tablet, android or smartphone and by people at all levels of "computer literacy" and all levels of birding experience. With it you can:
* Find more birds
* Keep track of your bird lists, photos, and sounds
* Explore latest sightings from around the world
* Join the world's largest birding community
* Contribute to science and conservation
Jacob Crawford of Green Mountain Audubon and Dean Leary of Rokeby Museum will introduce you to eBird and show how this easy to use program can help you, and how you can help science. All you need is a well charged electronic device. Cell service makes it easier to use outside, but isn't necessary. Bring a pair of binoculars if you would like to. The workshop will take place Saturday, September 24 from 9 am to 10:30 am at Rokeby at 4334 Route 7 in Ferrisburgh You can practice using eBird and/or Merlin on the Sunday September 25 tour of the Ferrisburgh Town Forest with Jen Cirillo of the Ferrisburgh Conservation Commission.
This event is free but space is limited so please register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ebird-program-tickets-415541294197
This workshop is made possible by grants awarded through the Northeast Bird Habitat Conservation Initiative (NBHCI), a collaborative effort between The Regional Conservation Partnership (RCP) Network, Audubon groups, Highstead, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. With funding from the Sarah K. de Coizart Perpetual Charitable Trust, NBHCI awarded eBird mini-grants of $500 to nine RCPs, including the Mid-Champlain Valley RCP of northern Addison County, so they can host workshops that train participants within their networks on how to use eBird.
