Ward 1 N.P.A. at the Friends Meeting House!

Friends and Neighbors,

We resume Ward 1 NPA meetings this coming Wednesday, September 14, at the Friends Meeting House at 173 North Prospect Street. Dominoes will be providing pizza, and while there are a few spaces at the Friends and parking on the street, the Ohavi Zedek synagogue (across the street and just a little North of the Friends), is happy to have folks park in their lot. We plan to meet in the Friends space for the next couple months to see how it works. The meeting will run from 7PM to 9PM, but feel free to come at 6:30 for a bite to eat! The meeting will be hybrid, and Zoom coordinates are detailed below.

One way or the other, we hope you join us! We'll start the meeting with introductions and Speakout. Please feel free to share your thoughts and concerns about what you see is going on in the community.

Next, and you may not believe it, but even though redistricting is looming, we are going to discuss Ward 1 Bylaws:
https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/sites/default/files/DRAFT%20Ward%20One%20Neighborhood%20Plannin[...]pdf

This is virtually identical to the document we wrote about in FPF a couple times over the summer. There is one small addition, based on your input – we added a sentence encouraging hybrid meetings, held in person and online. We plan to read through the document on Wednesday, and, if folks are comfortable, hold a vote.

Following the Bylaws, the floor will be handed over to City officials and your queries to them:
• Members of the Charter Change Committee (Sarah Carpenter, Ben Traverse, Gene Bergman) will discuss Legal Resident Non-Citizen voting.
• Councilors Hightower and Hanson will share their current thoughts on redistricting, public safety, and UVM housing, and anything else you want to ask them about.
• Superintendent Tom Flanagan will come talk about High Schools, Bonds and anything else you want to ask him about.

We'd love to see you in person in our new 'digs', but if you choose to Zoom in, this is where you can do it:

Thanks,
Carol, Tom, and Jonathan
