Our Veterans: Winners, Losers, Friends, and Enemies on the New Terrain of Veterans Affairs
An evening with authors Suzanne Gordon, Steve Early, and Vermonter Jasper Craven

Tuesday, September 13, 2022 - 7:00-8:30 pm
Phoenix Books, 191 Bank Street, Downtown Burlington

The book, "Our Veterans" explores the physical, emotional, social, economic, and psychological impact of military service and the problems that veterans face when they return to civilian life.

The authors critically examine the role of advocacy organizations, philanthropies, corporations, and politicians who purport to be "pro-veteran." They describe the ongoing debate about the cost, quality, and effectiveness of healthcare provided or outsourced by the Department of Veterans Affairs and examine generational divisions and political tensions among veterans.

"Our Veterans" proposes a new agenda for veteran affairs linking service provision to veterans to the quest for broader social programs benefiting all Americans. It is a call to action by everyone concerned about health equity.

This evening is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Vermont (LWVVT). The League, being concerned about the privatization of Medicare, is very troubled by ongoing efforts to privatize military healthcare. Other sponsors include Vermont AFL-CIO, Communications Workers of America Local 1400, Will Miller Green Mountain Veterans for Peace, Chapter 57, and Vermont Physicians for a National Health Program.

There is no cost to attend the book discussion, but advance registration is requested. Masks are strongly encouraged but no longer required for vaccinated attendees. Register at:
