Dear Neighbors, Recent developments limiting the reproduction rights of women has me concerned about the consequences for the generation coming of age and the scary forecast of the slippery slope that might follow. In my lifetime, birth control pills were prescribed under the pretense of acne treatment. I decided to join the "Miles Together" virtual walk on September 25 to raise funds for this non-profit wanting to make it easier for women to access all reproductive health services. I am planning to do a low-key modest walk of three miles, starting at my house, heading downtown, crossing the bridge, stopping at Saint Stephen's garden for a quiet moment of reflection before heading back to my home for tea, sweets, and conversation. If you would care to join me, I would be delighted. Sign up at milestogether.org. My team's name is "Griswold" (who was the pioneer who took her case to the Supreme Court in 1965 and won the right for women to legally access birth control). Please email me for start time and location. Thank you. Lorraine
The back story: my granddaughter Sarah Holmes (age 18) founded this non-profit, Miles Together, to raise funds for equity and social justice causes through collective exercise. There was a nice story about Sarah in the Addison Independent on Sept 1. This is her first event on Sept 25 in support of reproductive rights. All net proceeds will support those in need living in states with access restrictions. If this cause might resonate with folks you know, please spread the word. Sarah's goal is to have every state represented. Visit milestogether.org for all the details and check out Addy Indy's interview article.
