Anti-Racism Book Discussion Group

Past event
Sep 19, 2022, 6 to 7:30 PM

Our Anti-Racism Book Discussion Group has been meeting monthly for three years, to talk about books, fiction, non-fiction and poetry, written by people of color. Our most recent read was "The 1619 Project," by Nikole Hannah Jones, a powerful collection of essays and poetry about the history and legacy of slavery in the United States.

We meet once a month, usually on the first Monday , from 6:00 to 7:30. Our next meeting will be September 19, and after several years of Zoom meetings, we are going to start meeting this month in person at the Vermont Center for Independent Living at 11 E. State Street (please use the back door).

The book we are reading for this month is James McBride's "Deacon King Kong," a hilarious novel set in the Brooklyn projects in the 1950's. Books are available at Bear Pond Books in Montpelier, and I have an extra copy that someone may have.
