Frederick M. Wiseman, Ph. D and Melody Brook present the rediscovery of heirloom plants of the Abenaki, and related ceremonies and traditions. Working from oral history, seventeenth century documents, and ethnographic research, Wiseman and Brook have compiled a living agricultural calendar complete with technical and ritual components of planting, nurture, harvest, and cuisine. Some unexpected results of their work with the Koasek Tribe include the formation of a women’s singing group and establishment of dedicated Tribal cropping and ceremonial space.
