Vermont Women and the Civil War - Presented by Howard Coffin

Location: Brick Meeting House, 1685 VT Route 128, Westford VT

The Westford Historical Society will host Vermont's own Howard Coffin on Saturday, September 17th from 1:30 until 3:00 at the Brick Meeting House in Westford (1685 VT Route 128).

He will discuss the role of Vermont Women and the Civil War drawing from diaries and letters and talk about what Vermont's women were doing to keep the home fires burning while their men (nearly 35,000 of them) were off fighting in the Civil War. He will describe what life was like in the Green Mountain State during the war years of 1861 to 1865.

Much has been written about men's roles, but little, until now, has shed light on what it was like for the wives and families of these soldiers during this most trying of times. We hope you will join us for this fascinating presentation.

The Meeting House has a ramp for easy access. The talk is free and open to the public although donations are always appreciated. The Vermont Humanities program along with the National Endowment for the Humanities help sponsor this educational program.
