Hi Neighborhood!
I am Adam McCullough, Montpelier's City Arborist. There is a city tree at the bottom corner of Parkway Ave on the right side of the road as you are going up the hill. It is a good sized silver maple with considerable defects. I've been monitoring this tree for some time, and have been going back and forth about what to do with it. I've knocked on some of your doors to discuss it, but I'd like to invite you to a public meeting, outdoors, across the street from the tree in question, to discuss options for how to care for it. I can share with you my observations, and my best guess for what will be needed and what realistic outcomes are for known treatments. Removing the tree is one option, Pruning and cabling the tree is another. Pruning it and attempting to improve its soil is a third. Doing nothing to the tree at all is not a reasonable option considering the high likelihood that the tree will continue shedding large pieces of dead wood in both public and private areas. Thank you!
Feel free to come share your opinion and look at the tree, at 5:30pm on August 31st. I look forward to meeting you,
Adam McCullough
