The third production of Oldcastle Theatre Company's 50th anniversary season on opens on Friday! Sheepdog by Kevin Artigue is inspired by a 2016 viral facebook post by Cleveland, Ohio police officer Nakia Jones––the play examines a love story between two Cleveland police officers: Amina, who is African American, and Ryan, who is white. Their deep love for each other is rocked off its axis when Ryan becomes entangled in the aftermath of an officer-involved shooting. In a play the Chicago Tribune called a "must-see and intensely emotional," "Sheepdog" challenges audiences to candidly examine class, race, love, and that infinitesimal, life-changing moment before a Police Officer discharges their weapon.
Sheepdog is directed by Kirk Jackson (Berkie-nominated for Living Room Theatre's Dolls House Part 2 in 2021).
The production runs August 26–September 4 at Bennington Performing Arts Center—The Home of Oldcastle Theatre Company, 331 Main Street in Bennington, VT. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $35 for reserved seating. Performances are Wednesday–Saturday at 7:30 pm and Thursday, Saturday (Aug. 27) and Sunday at 2 pm, with a Pay What You Will nights on Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1st.
Sheepdog examines big questions about race and policing through an intensely human lens. To coincide with this production, BPAC and Oldcastle Theatre is hosting two community conversations after performances of the play - on August 28 and September 1. Anyone who has attended any performance of Sheepdog is welcome to come to these conversations beginning after the show ends at 9pm. With these discussions we hope to inspire deep consideration of the play's challenging subject matter, and to find connections between the questions the play raises, and the community here in Bennington as it examines some of the same issues.
Face masks are currently required when in the building. Get tickets online at http://oldcastletheatre.org/tickets/, by phone at 802-447-0564, or in
